identity saga continues (I am who I am)
Good thing! The Registrar General is 'reviewing my application'. Which is a step up from 'there is a problem with your application but we won't say what'! Maybe sometime they'll actually give me my damn birth certificate. Green card replacement is filed for and in process.
Not-so-good thing! Next step: deal with the frickin' SSA, which is just as annoying as the Ontario Registrar General, except with less garantours. Please God let them not want to see my passport (which is expired because I haven't needed to use it so I have to apply for a new one, which of course requires my birth certificate - third base!). Otherwise this is going to take EVEN LONGER. Although it's possible the Consulate can expedite my application for a passport...)
NOTE to ANY GREEN CARD HOLDERS FROM CANADA. FOR GOD'S SAKE, KEEP YOUR PASSPORT CURRENT EVEN IF YOU DON'T NEED THE DAMN THING. USCIS could have just stamped my passport and it would have served well enough until my replacement green card came in ... to fill out the I-9 and to get across the border.
/waits on hold hearing stuff about Social Security and how we're all going to hell in a handbasket
Thank God. They just want to see my green card. Excellent. And I had a nice conversation about the Maritimes with the dude on the other end of the line.
/sigh of relief
