convert

read book, had 1 1/2 hour nap. feel astoundingly better. am now cuddled up with two cats. sometimes life is really good. okay, my shoulder hurts kind of badly but other than that.

does anyone have a particularly good website or something on how to convert DPN sock patterns to two-circular needles sock patterns (not magic loop as yet, i want to try this first). i know cat borhi had a book out but i think it's still packed or something, i don't know where it is right off?

edit: okay, shoulder hurts worse than anticipated. ugh.

Glad you're feeling better, minus that shoulder thing. =\ But you sound quite cozy. I feel like you should have a mug of tea or hot chocolate or something nearby. =)

What sort of conversion are you looking for? I'm not sure how sock-comfortable you are, but pretty much any pattern can be done dpn or 2circ or magic loop, you just substitute needle 1, needle 2 whatever for what you actually have. Since it's all just the same round and round in a circle, it just comes down to keeping the pattern straight for yourself, and stitch markers (rings or bits of yarn or whatever) wouldn't be amiss for that. Or is there something else about the two needle way you're particularly looking for? I usually do DPNs, but I've done 2circ, maybe I can help =D

it's really only the heel flap portions I'm wondering about. i understand how the process up to that works more or less the same but i'm kind of lost at that point.

what I would recommend is do the leg the way you usually would, half the stitches on one side, half on the other, then do the heel flap on all the stitches on one needle, then when you get to picking up the gusset, keep all those picked up stitches on the heel flap needle since you'll work down to the number of stitches you had before.

This may also help, just focus on one sock rather than two, but the idea is the same: http://www.socknitters.com/2circs/index.htm

I tried, not too long ago, to do 2-at-a-time/2 circs. I also chose that project to be my first attempt at toe-up. Oy.

I ended up casting on with my DPNs, swapping that over after a few rounds to the circs, swapping to DPNs again for the gusset and heel flap, then swapping back again to the circs for the legs. I liked finishing both socks at the same time, but am still much more comfortable (and even quicker) with my DPNs.

I realize that was no help, but your post reminded me of last summer's experience.
