It's really out of date, but you might want to track down a copy of "the Man Whose Name Wouldn't Fit". It's from the late 60s. About the problems of a man who was fired because his name (Albert Duane Cartwright-Chickering) wouldn't fit the name field in their new computerized employee records.

I mentioned it on a mailing list and was told that other people had complained. And the staff response was "so what?"
This even though they made a *huge* deal about ID being checked at the door and that your name *must* match your ID.

The preferred format for my address (According to Canada Post) is 6-255 Streetname Ct., and it wouldn't accept it.
I'd hate to live on Fischer-Hallman Rd. :) (Although, that's not even consistent within the city.. some signs have it with a -, some with a /...)
