hang 'em high

Wrong thing to do on a Major Software Company's 'working parents' email list: When someone posts something about having trouble with their nanny, it is truly stupid to say, "well, you should just quit your job and stay home with the kid. people want too many material things nowadays anyway."

To play devil's advocate, there's a video on CNN about a nanny neglecting and abusing twins; the mom discovered it only when she installed a secret video camera.

Believe me, I am *not* criticizing others' choices when I say this: if both parents are working, and one's salary is just enough to cover nannies/daycare, maybe it would make sense financially for that parent to stay home. Other, work-related costs also drop too. (Notice I said financially. I am very much aware that people work for a variety of reasons, only one being the paycheque.)

OTOH, we are in a society that pretty much requires two incomes to survive anyway, forget about getting ahead. And this commenter surely has no clue about the OP's situation, so his/her/its comment was uncalled for.
