My mother used to tell the story that she left my sister and I alone with Dad for a few hours, to go shopping. Came home, 'How are the girls?'.

'Oh, they've been great. Haven't heard a sound out of them.'

Turns out we were painting on the brand-new, less than 3 week old linoleum in the kitchen.

It's a good thing I used to be cute, because I never would have made it otherwise. :-)
