pill wrangler? jesus. what a job.

Am I the only one that upon reading this article about Ray Kurzweil and his two hundred supplements per day thinks he may have taken a sharp turn toward WTF?

Heh. Nope -- it was written up in Boing Boing and I was like, "Good God, how long does it take him to swallow all those pills and how does he keep them all down?" I mean, there are at least sixty tablets, gelcaps, and coated pills there just for his morning dose!

Eeegh. My thoughts exactly. Any time I've had to take more than about four capsules at once, my stomach completely rebels at the very smell of the gelatin coating. Plus, with 200 a day, how would you have room for any real food?

Very weird.

He wants to live forever.

If I had to take 200+ pills a day I might not live forever but it would sure feel like forever. And ghu knows it can't be cheap, what do all those pills cost? I don't have the time or the money to live forever if that's what it takes.

There are certain jobs that just farble me. Pill wrangler is right up there.

First of all, I love your icon.

Secondly, I've seen Ray speak (I love info singularity theory) and he has OCD worse than I do. He seemed to have two distinct tics plus he also seemed to be a toucher *and* a counter. The vitamin regimen may be just another ritual to relieve stress. If it wasn't that, it would be more counting or touching. At least this one may have some health benefits.

Huh. That I didn't know, although that certainly explains a lot. <3
(the icon is from [livejournal.com profile] jane_hiddell; I have a bigger version too, which I'm thinking of tossing in my profile for no real reason. *laugh*)

Heh. I read Fantastic Voyage a couple of years ago (he discusses his supplement and treatment regimen in the book). Some of my comments at the time:
Um. I'm even reasonably sympathetic to Ray's life extension goals, but I still think that he's way out in the outfield. He's not quite across the "complete crackpot" line yet, but I think he can probably see it from where he's standing.

Living forever sounds dreadful. The phrase "too much of a good thing" comes to mind...
