to anyone out there that has crappy balance and is dealing with snow/ice/general slipperyness: you need these.

I just ordered mine so I'll be doing a review. <3

ALSO: thank you [livejournal.com profile] anneheart and [livejournal.com profile] nightdog_barks for your wonderful cards, and thank you [livejournal.com profile] jane_hidell for the amazingly awesome package of love. <3 <3

Ooh - a guy I work with came in wearing those today. His whole family just got them in the mail, and they *love* them.

Where were those last year when I was walking to the bus/train/work/home????

I was just looking at those on the weekend and considering getting a pair for my mother (and perhaps myself, given that I wiped out walking to work the other day). I was thinking of adding them to a story as well :)

I've contemplating picking them up. Our local Plow & Hearth store sells them. We just don't get enough ice/snow to make them worthwhile.

i got a pair last winter.

BE CAREFUL. that's my primary advice. DO NOT wear these on indoor smooth floors such as stone or linoleum. you WILL wipe rightthefuck out. they are awesome on ice, snow, wetness, and carpet, but REALLYBAD for indoor smooth floors. it'll take a little practice to get them on and off when you go somewhere - they can be a bit stiff. generally i try to only wear them when outdoor time is greater than indoor time.

I was going to buy a pair but a friend of mine warned me that they are difficult to get on and off - which doesn't seem like such a great idea for those with crappy balance. But I'd be interested in hearing what you think of them.

I've been thinking of getting those. This time around I've been using a walking stick for increased stability and am contemplating using my hiking poles on the walk to work tomorrow. (They're like dual walking sticks with pointy bits at one end and wrist-support loops at the other, and they totally saved my knees while backpacking. I adore them.)

My dad has something like that - he calls them "chains for his feet". He loves them.
