because i have many people asking

The biopsy i had yesterday was some salivary glands under my lower lip (there are six main salivary glands but there are many smaller ones - like veins and capillaries, that sort of thing.) they removed between 10 and 12 small ones; they'll grow back, and the stitches will dissolve over the next ten days or so. They are testing me for sjogren's syndrome, which is an autoimmune condition similar to rheumathoid arthritis or fibromyalgia. There is a blood test, but they did it twice and the results were inconclusive; this is the best way to find out for sure. i should know the results in about a week or so.

i kind of hope that's part of the problem (it may not be the whole problem; autoimmune disorders tend to travel in packs) because then i'll know what it is and know how to treat it. most of the symptoms do sound a lot like me.

Just out of curiosity, have you been tested for celiac disease at all? It's another autoimmune disease that can affect the whole body. (I'm asking because you have Seaners on the GF diet.)

i'm pretty sure they did test for that one, yes. they did blood tests for about ten - i'll ask them though.
i'm starting to reintroduce small amounts of gluten in a bit at a time on his doctor's advice; trying to see if it's dairy (he had a dairy sensitivity as a baby and we were told he'd probably grow out of it, but looking at this he might not) and/or wheat and/or gluten. fun stuff, i tell you

Ah, so it is related to past posts. I just missed the connection.

*hug*

I hate autoimmune diseases. My mom has 3; lupus, graves disease and pernicious anemia. I hope that whatever it is, that you are feeling better soon <3

My best friend has lupus, multiple sclerosis (the kind one can live with) and Sjogren's, so they sure do travel in packs. I hope, if you have one, this is the only one. And that your poor mouth feels better soon. *hugs*

>_< I'm sorry, hon. I'm on that boat, too, and on meds that seem to be doing the trick as well as putting other possibly hidden demons to rest. ♥

i disapprove of autoimmune diseases, but it is better than the Dr telling you that you're just bored or some shit. <3 i know what you mean about hoping it's the problem. i kind of hope it is, too, but then i also hope that it's not and that you have some little tiny switch somewhere that needs flipping.

i will look for it when i see you. *solemn*

[identity profile] phinnia.livejournal.com 2009-04-22 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
of course. <3 i think it might be well hidden.
you dislike autoimmune diseases for the usual diseases-suck reason, or something else i've missed?

[identity profile] machineplay.livejournal.com 2009-04-23 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
well, there's that. and then there's the fact that it's just dirty pool. i mean, it's IN your body already. it doesn't have to go through all the challenges that other diseases do. you know, waiting for a mutation or finding a break in the protective tissues, gaining purchase... and then it coopts the autoimmune system. does that sound like something Sun Tzu would have approved? Machiavelli, maybe, but even he had some class.

I hope the results are good--good in the sense of "helps explain things, points you toward good treatments."

I think we should invent little gang signs for our own personal packs of autoimmune disorders.

(Heh, this is my autoimmune/CFS icon.)

<3. I hope you get some closure, and yay for soluble stitches; they are so cool.
