phinnia: smiling dolphin face (change of heart)

Nostalgia Street

When I was younger, before most of you fine people knew I existed, (back in high school; [livejournal.com profile] anndrag and [livejournal.com profile] raventyde likely recall) I had a strange and inexplicable affinity for rubber chickens.
I love them. I still do. I have a small model one; I have one on a keychain. I'd buy just about anything if it had rubber chickens on it. You know the kind; yellow, feet stretched out, little stubby wings folded in? Yeah.
Fast forward to the present. Today in my mailbox I find a large and squishy parcel that ... squawks?
And therein lives ... yes, a rubber chicken. [livejournal.com profile] raventyde sent it to me; it is yellow and squishy and has a squawk that she compared in her letter to that of a dying yak.
It's fantastic. I'm sitting here grinning like an idiot over the thing.
The moral: not all parts of the past deserve to be buried. Apparently that's this week's lesson.
Thank you, drive through.

A rubber chicken and an appropriatley sized cork make a most excellent bota-style wine bag.

Well, OK, the wine ends up tasting a bit like latex, but it's worth it for the effect.

Chicken!

I like rubber chickens. There used to be a german comedian who always carried one in one of those old doctor's bags, head sticking out and all...

I seem to vaguely remember that, or a reference to it. Who was it?

His stage name was Gottlieb Wendehals (http://www.showagentur-net.de/Index_de/Doubleshow_s/Gottlieb_Wendehals/gottlieb_wendehals.html) and he was one of these really naff 70s/early 80s entertainers...
