On the subject of knitting:
Me: I figured out my problem. I keep starting these huge projects and then getting overwhelmed by them and getting frustrated and never finishing them. So I need to start where every idiot starts.
Chris: Hello World?
Me: A scarf. *thinking* Yeah. The scarf is really 'Hello World' for knitters.

Yeah, that's where I'm starting. Though I already had to start over once. I suck at this.

My problem is not remembering how because I put it down for six months at a time. (We'll not talk about the bag that I tried to knit that got somehow tied up in KNOTS so bad I had to cut it off the needle ..)
Good luck!

On the bright side, it's certainly getting to be scarf weather!

That it definitely is. :-D My goal is to get to hats before it gets too warm to wear them again. This might be reaching, but I suppose it's worth a try.

You don't want to hear abut how many scarves I have/had sitting on the needles unfinished for months then, presumably? ::giggle::

I'm trying the pattern in Stitch n' Bitch with the hyoooooge needles and the monster fat yarn. I'm hoping this makes a difference. :-)

that should work fine... the trick is not to get distracted by too many other pretty things, thats where I went wrong, though being stern with myself has definitely helped!

*grins*

Yeah, scarves are likely the best thing to start knitting with.

I tried knitting but I knit too slowly, so I crochet instead.

I never managed to get beyond single crochet. Sadly I don't crochet any faster than I knit. :-D

*snicker* Scarves take me a few days to crochet. To knit... almost a month.

http://www.stitchguide.com (I think it is) should have some good stitches.

Anyway, good luck on the Hello World! Scarf. =)

You are brilliant!

[identity profile] phinnia.livejournal.com 2005-10-16 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
*grins, bows* We try.

[identity profile] tfcocs.livejournal.com 2005-10-16 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course, the next scarf either one of us knits should be adorned with those words (Hello World), with rainbow lettering. Are you game? :-)

[identity profile] phinnia.livejournal.com 2005-10-16 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man. :-D As soon as I figure out how to do that, I'm so doing that.

[identity profile] emmalynne.livejournal.com 2005-10-16 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
watch out, scarves can be addictive. I made myself one in january one year and by Christmas I had one made for everyone on my list and some extras, everyone I knew got scarves that year.

I made a scarf once. (Crochet, with this wonderful Skacel huge-fuzzy stuff.)

Then another. Then another. All my immediate family has one.

Then I tried knitting one, with normal worsted yarn. It was OK... but not as fun. There wasn't the "gee-whiz" yarn factor.

Now I'm knitting something (scarf or hair-ribbon-1960's-tie-thing) in bright-orange hand-dyed yarn made from bamboo, using a lacy pattern... it's *much* more fun.

It really is all about the yarn!
