clawing my way toward human

My film noir teacher is gorgeous and funny and has a fantastic french accent (he's from the states, he just spent the last four months teaching in France). He totally knows his stuff, and we're watching some fabulous movies (Next week: double feature! The Asphalt Jungle and Double Indemnity.).

(Weird random note: I just realized that 'the states' is a Canadianism. Americans say 'the US' most of the time.)

Chris is on a conference call. I suppose I should read the third act of Ibsen. Here are some things for you to play with while I'm gone ...

Power flosser to lockpick.

iPod jeans.

Radio controlled katamari.

Interestingly, those of us who grew up in US military families also say "the states."

I envy you your film noir class...

And speaking of katamari, have you seen this?

We say 'the States' in the UK as well ;-)

They also say "the states" in the UK and Ireland.

I don't think "the States" is so much a Canadianism so much as something Americans don't usually say while *in* the US. I've definitely heard it from Americans overseas.
