because i also have a day job

dear self:

You do not get involved in fandom drama.

Because you know better.

Even if the oversight is both idiotic and big enough to drive a sizeable planet through.

Yes, even then.

Walk away clean, just ... walk away clean.

Love,

The part of your brain that likes peace and quiet

If they're gonna ignore us, they can at least not post it in our comm. (I assume you're talking about what I'm talking about; if not, oh well. I've looked stupider.)

[identity profile] phinnia.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you know exactly what I'm talking about. <3 Or there's some other equally idiotic thing going on that I don't know about. But yes. Massively overlooked areas of fandom?

It just irritates me that we're bigger than any other ship in this fandom, and yet they're trying to skirt around us. We're like the elephant in the center of the room - or is it corner? I'm not quite sure. Either way, I'm pretty sure we're a key part of who they're advertising this con to in the first place. It wouldn't do to piss us off.

[identity profile] jane-hidell.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't care when I saw it in [livejournal.com profile] rsl_daily, but when they posted it in [livejournal.com profile] house_wilson I was seriously in WTF? mode.

Although ya know what? It doesn't belong in [livejournal.com profile] rsl_daily either.

I hope they don't post it in [livejournal.com profile] housewilsonlol, because then I will have to decide between BAHLEETION and LULZ.

[identity profile] phinnia.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
They posted in [livejournal.com profile] capslock_house.
I'm keeping the tab open for giggles.

[identity profile] jane-hidell.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL Why did they respond to me and no one else? WTF

[identity profile] spoggly.livejournal.com 2008-06-22 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
B/C THEY LOVE YOU

IS THAT SO WRONG

CAUSE IF IT IS

I DON'T WANT TO BE RIGHT

[identity profile] phinnia.livejournal.com 2008-06-22 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
I still think it's because she used small words.

[identity profile] jane-hidell.livejournal.com 2008-06-22 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
:3

Though I doubt it was because they love me lol.

[identity profile] purridot.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't see the point of those 4 categories -- even if they were going for het, Thirteen is not included under any of those. Morons.

[identity profile] shutterbug-12.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Neither is anything to do with Amber. You'd think they'd at least include a canon relationship and, if they're going to het exclusively, I'd say they missed a big one.

[identity profile] shutterbug-12.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL. Wow. I had to go check that out, just to see what people were talking about and, wow. I don't ship House/Wilson as a couple, and I don't think that, just because the ship has a larger internet-base than others, it is entitled to or deserves special treatment or recognition. But it should, like the other ships, be recognized as a ship, because it's a fact that it is one. Know what I mean? It would be like ignoring the color yellow in the spectrum. You don't have to like the color yellow, but you can't just ignore its existence. That really isn't cool, to exclude a whole group of fans like that. Fail. Heh. (I also notice that my favorite pairing is not included here, unless it falls under the O/C category, but I don't know what O/C means.)

[identity profile] phinnia.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure o/c = original character.

[identity profile] shutterbug-12.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, pfft. I love how they're ignoring the definite canon relationships, too. No mention of either House/Stacy OR Wilson/Amber. Sheesh. I know neither of those have big fan bases, but still, if they're going to be "fair", they should include all ships, not just the ones they feel are "worthy" in one way or another. *grumble, grumble*

(Sorry about my massive html fail in my last comment. That < /i > was supposed to be a < /b >. *facepalm*)

All I'll say is that announcing fanfic rules on August 15th and then accepting fics "in September" is a fairly tight schedule for a 15,000 - 25,000 word story.

It can be done, but if you don't even know what the rules are going to be before you start then that could be a real spanner in the works.

Obviously it's their contest to run the way they see fit, but to post a no-slash competition in a slash community is just bad karma.

[identity profile] cueballex.livejournal.com 2008-06-22 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
It reminds me of what's her name, the baseball chick, who posted an ad for her anti-slash comm to [livejournal.com profile] housefic, except this is even worse karma.

[identity profile] deelaundry.livejournal.com 2008-06-22 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
I was too astonished at the exclusion of H/W to notice the word count. Who in the House fandom writes that long? At 20K words, and months until the deadline, Big Bang only got fewer than 20 entries. (Most of which had House/Wilson!)

[identity profile] nightdog-barks.livejournal.com 2008-06-22 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Heh. I could submit Welcome To Wherever You Are. It's something like 26K and gen.

And yeah, Big Bang was one of the first things I thought of.

[identity profile] blackmare-9.livejournal.com 2008-06-22 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Heh. I could submit Welcome To Wherever You Are. It's something like 26K and gen.

Bwaahahahahahahaha. You know, I was thinking EXACTLY that -- that we could very likely cause them a mental meltdown with some of the gen fics that some of us write.

I wonder if the rules allow for collaborative works?

They probably don't know, and would have to get back to us.

[identity profile] hithah.livejournal.com 2008-06-22 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Well, have fun with that. Meanwhile, my WIP, while long enough and gen enough, isn't nearly canon-compliant enough!

Help, help, I'm being oppressed!

Darn. I should have written a House/Mary Sue story. 'Cause, you know, those are SO canon compliant, AND are not only allowed, but encouraged, thus having their own category...

That sound you hear? That's the sound of my brain exploding from trying to understand how OC ships are canon-compliant.

[identity profile] blackmare-9.livejournal.com 2008-06-22 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't read the rules, so I know nothing of the "canon-compliant" thing of which you speak.

While it's funny to think of what some of us (especially some of us who are named Nightdog) could submit in the "Gen" category, I honestly have no desire to participate. It's not anger or anything, just apathy. I'm having too much fun with my extremely non-canon-compliant AU at the moment.

:-)

[identity profile] hithah.livejournal.com 2008-06-22 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
You know what, I think I'm mixing up my fanfic contests here, since the OTHER House convention is ALSO running a fanfic contest right now. Someone reposted rules from the other fanfic contest in the comments section of THIS one's contest, and now it's all mixed up.

I think it's the other one that is having hysterics over MUST BE CANON and making all these rules about how the stories have to take place DURING the show.

Regardless, I'm with ya. I have absolutely no desire to entire either of these contests myself, but I love the idea of just what could get submitted under that gen heading, particularly by Nightdog. Too funny.

[identity profile] deelaundry.livejournal.com 2008-06-22 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
OH! Maybe I could submit "Keeper" under O/C! That's over 20K and about O/Cs!

[identity profile] mer-duff.livejournal.com 2008-06-22 08:55 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously. Once I got over the initial WTF of the categories - I had to wonder what kind of quality they think they're going to get on that kind of timeline. I know there are wonderful writers who can create brilliant stories of that length in a month, but it seems like a major handicap to other writers. I am, happily, just drunk enough on really awesome wine to bring that point up to the organizers without caring what I'm getting myself into...

[identity profile] topaz-eyes.livejournal.com 2008-06-22 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
announcing fanfic rules on August 15th and then accepting fics "in September" is a fairly tight schedule for a 15,000 - 25,000 word story.

And: NaNoWriMo isn't even until November!

[identity profile] thewlisian-afer.livejournal.com 2008-06-22 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Target audience fail! I got online and [livejournal.com profile] jackoweskla was like, "Did you see...?" And I hadn't checked my flist in hours and hours and was still working on reading my email, so I was blissfully clueless. Since it breaks rules, though, we get to be like "LULZ, SRY, NO."

[identity profile] phinnia.livejournal.com 2008-06-22 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
The first thing I thought of (after I was done with the usual round of WTFFANDOM?) is 'oh god, I'm sorry Macbean has to deal with this crap.) <3

[identity profile] thewlisian-afer.livejournal.com 2008-06-22 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
This was an easy one, really. Once the h_wers pointed out how moronic it was, they posted their very own 'We fucked up!' post and are possibly adding a H/W category. All we had to do was ask them to move the post to the off-topic comm until that happens, and they did that really quickly. Boring compliant idiots. XD

[identity profile] hithah.livejournal.com 2008-06-22 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
They also posted it over at [profile] house_mst. I mean, yeah, it's a fanfic-related comm, but advertising a fanfic contest in a community devoted to bad!fic cracked me up.

But the best, by far, were [community profile] house_wilson and [profile] capslock_house. The levels of epic fail, they are too many for me to count.

[identity profile] brynnamorgan.livejournal.com 2008-06-22 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
I was fucking speechless. Totally speechless. It's like, wtf, are you idiots SERIOUS, posting in H/W like that? Then they add this particular piece of condescending crap:

We will hopefully have an answer for H/W fans regarding submissions by Monday, when we will be in touch with the person running the contest.
We are most definitely open to your suggestions.
Thank you to everyone at H/W a FAN-tastic community:)

Like any of us would even consider entering their shitty contest after the glaring oversight from the start.

After the obvious initial reaction (why no H/W) my next thought was to wonder why they want non-writers to judge.

Oh deary deary me.
