Hi.
First of all, someone help a poor pop-culture impaired person ...
What's the thing with 'my milkshake brings $GROUP to the yard?' What the what? What does it mean? What is its etymology?

Someone got my request, because it cooled off. And happiness shall be had. Hot muggy weather makes Phinnias irritable.

Why am I awake at this hour? Chris has to go to Salem today, so I got up early to have coffee with him before he left. Other than that there is very little going on in House of Talphinia.

The milkshake thing is from a VERY annoying song by Kelis (?). I think it's one of the most retarded songs I've ever heard in my life.

As annoying as it is, I like the Olde English version better.

My milkshake bringeth all yet gentlefolk to the yard,
And they say, it's better than thine.
Verily, it's better than thine!
I could teach you, but I'd have to levy a fee.

I am going to have to find this song now, just so I can experience it for myself. :-D

Of course I am. :-)

Yeah, it's one of those songs you hate but you catch yourself singing along to because they are SO EFFIN CATCHY. Like Achy Breaky Heart. The Milkshake song is much like Achy Breaky Heart to me. *shudder*

If I hear even the -faintest- strains of that song, I immediately bash whatever radio is playing the song onto another station.

I can't say I've /ever/ heard that expression, but then I've never even heard of the artist [livejournal.com profile] kholnuu mentioned, either. I somehow don't think I'm missing out. :)

I had never heard of either the expression or the artist either. However, out of curiosity, I looked up the lyrics online, and my conclusion is that no, neither of us are missing out. ;)

I now have that song stuck in my head. :P

i actually heard an interview with kelis where she explained it.

basically, your milkshake is supposed to = your mojo or your kevorka or whatever you want to call it.

for kelis, it's her boobs. for someone else it could be their eyes. it's what makes you attractive to the boys.

Aha! Now that makes sense. Thank you. :-) I feel enlightened.

What is really sad is I could do a milkshake (shaking my boobs to make a milkshake...) however, it really wouldn't make me any more attractive. I will hopefully avoid this song by virtue of never listening to the radio.

I think that's how I've managed to avoid it myself. :-D
