springy spring

55F and shiny outside. Much blue sky and slight wind: spent the morning cleaning (and airing out) the house and watching disk 3 of Chobits. Last night we watched 'Lost in Translation', which is beautiful, and I want to see 'The Virgin Suicides' now. Thank God Sofia Coppola can direct better than she can act, that's all I'm saying.

My MIL recommended that movie (Lost in Translation) to us, so we got it from the local library.

I... didn't get it, I guess. Neither of us, in fact, saw the appeal. I didn't hate it or anything, but it just didn't seem to have much plot, or something. I remember being very disappointed because she'd raved about it so much.

Odd.

I really enjoyed the technical aspects (especially the cinematography - it's visually stunning - the shots are really well composed, almost like ikebana). I think it's almost easier to get if you don't try. It puts you in the same situation as the main characters (there's a lot going on, constantly, that doesn't make sense at all - there are no subtitles, so you're only privy to that which the characters themselves are privy to) which is a very brave thing to do as far as films go.

Of course, I'm a total film nerd and watch lots of things that don't make sense, so maybe that's part of why it didn't bother me.

I don't think I was "trying" to get it, necessarily... but I can see the parallels you're making. I guess I just do expect my movies to make sense. :)

Oh, it totally was. :-) It's supposed to be nice like that all week, too. Yay spring!
