Well, apparently Philadelphia's trying to make the city one big wireless hotspot. Portland's been trying to do that for a while with Personal Telco. (From [livejournal.com profile] boingboing_net)

Hmmmm. Chris is looking for a job. Maybe he needs to defenestrate his resume. (link from [livejournal.com profile] hitchhiker.)

How did my son learn how to perfectly imitate Bert's laugh from Sesame Street when he's never watched an episode of Sesame Street in his life (entirely due to lack of interest on his part, he's bored by TV)? Seriously. It's weird.

You know how they have those little picture frames with a spot for picture of kids at (x) period of time? It would be nifty to have something with a little 20 or 30 second voice recorder chip, like, in six month intervals; you could record adorable laughs for posterity.

Also to note: apparently I'm turning into my mother. Ph34r. I do.

Good things about shopping at Lush: The ability to buy delicious products with names like 'Miranda' (best soap EVER) and 'Prince Triple Orange Blossom' shaving cream and 'Sweet Japanese Girl' facial soap.

Bad things about shopping at Lush: having to wait for them to process your order and ship it to you. Fortunately their US depot is only in Bellingham, WA. I suppose I could go to the store on NW 23rd, but that neighborhood leaks money, and it's way too easy to spend way too much because of intoxication from the money fumes, waking up punchdrunk in an alley with your terrified, cowering and bruised Visa card. Besides, it's probably not as good as the store in Vancouver. ::pines mildly::

Good things about shopping at Lush, part two: when they actually bring your package to the door and you open it and the entire apartment smells fabulous for the next hour.

Every year when I was growing up Uncle Dan and Aunt Marian would have a huge fourth of July party. Me and my mom and dad, my uncle Mike and aunt Maureen, uncle Dan and aunt Marian, and all my cousins. It was about ... a dozen or more people? Yeah. My uncle Dan had this ranch just outside Missoula - seriously, barns and corrals and the whole nine yards, it was really something. Well, he didn't have any horses or livestock or anything ... but he had all the stuff. Uncle Dan was a great stuff collector. You know. Cowboy hats, chaps, guns. Lots and lots of guns.
But yeah, I was talking about the fourth of July.
Every year we'd have food - buckets of food, macaroni salad, fried chicken, burnt things on the barbecue. Uncle Dan, of course, being chief grillmaster, because it was his grill. Of course, my aunts had to do all of the rest of the work, and he got all the glory - my mother spent her time as far away from uncle Dan as possible. I remember once she ended up driving halfway to Helena just to calm down.
I think that was the time he wanted to know when she was going to quit her job and 'do what women were supposed to do'. Whatever that was. I think he meant stay at home and raise kids ... but I also remember being about thirteen at the time, so it didn't really make sense.
Of course, neither did uncle Dan.
But I was talking about the Fourth of July.
