writing roundup - august
Sep. 1st, 2010 06:15 pmmelt/fire/calm (dr. who: tenth doctor/jack: nc-17) relinking this again because i posted it in august here, so it belongs on this roundup.
tiny bubbles (dr. who: tenth doctor/jack; pg-13) first piece for the
kissbingo challenge. prompt was 'body: knees'
rain dance (torchwood/dr. who; jack harkness genfic, featuring bebe!jack and his mama. written for
bringthehappy. prompt was 'jack: raindrops'.
quite pleased with all three of these pieces. wish i could have managed more output. i need to learn to organize my time home alone better (ie: not waste my entire day playing sims). that's something i'm going to strive for this month; i want to organize my time better, do more fics and art and less spending huge blocks of time playing sims.

april/may/june/july writing roundup
Aug. 1st, 2010 06:19 pm... i kind of got off track a bit. i'm going to get ON track again. i've got off track of a lot of things in the past few months. i'm going to fix that. i think it was the business with my rehab counsellor that messed me up. i'm not going to let her beat me.
anyway:
fanfic:
burst (who - eleventh doctor/amy; PG.)
showers (who - tenth doctor/jack - nc-17)
soft (torchwood - jack/ianto - nc-17)
and posted this month but written last month (but i couldn't post it here until after the challenge ended there): melt/fire/calm (tenth doctor/jack - nc-17)
original:
spring evening, under young fruit trees (cybergeishas, pg-13)
i did write something for every month except June. That's okay. It'll be okay. (must not beat self up. that does not help.)

bird-people (fin)?
Aug. 29th, 2009 05:17 pmAfter a week, Corbin was gone. No fanfare, no pressure: they just woke up that morning and the sky was bright and quiet, brighter and quieter than it had been in weeks. No crows speckling the ground like black pepper; no lanky boy in a leather jacket cross-legged and patient on the lawn. He was gone as suddenly as he had arrived.
"I liked him." Jaye pronounced. One of her flock, a small Steller's that hadn't quite grown into its feathers yet, perched on her shoulder and nodded sagely.
"Well, you would, he's a corvid." Columba fluffed her ever-present grey shawl around her shoulders. "You're practically the same species. Loud and obnoxious, the whole lot of you." She tried to look annoyed, but a smile kept creeping through.
"Spirited." Jaye wrinkled her nose, and several of her flock cawed in agreement as they puffed up into balls of winter down.
"Yes." Columba stroked the head of one of her doves, gently digging her fingertips into the soft feathers at the back of its neck. "Go see what we've got in the stores for lunch, will you?"
"Course." She was gone in a flash of blue-grey feathers. The room was quiet for a little while, save for the soft coos and murmurs of Columba's roosting doves.
A small voice interrupted the silence. "Do you miss him, Col?"
"Sort of." Columba replied, reaching down to lift the little girl up onto the bed. Half a dozen chicks fell over each other as they tried to follow her. "It was ... sort of flattering to be fussed over, i suppose. But you can't just run off with some fellow that camps out on your lawn. Honestly." she laughed a little. "Males. Their mating displays are so ridiculous."
(the end? maybe. i don't know. i like them, and i keep thinking up new characters, but no new plots. argh. i want to illustrate it. Columba wears a big dress and is all shades of grey and brown and white; jaye is more vibrant, lots of blues and raggedy-but-hip thrift store clothes. Henny has tortoise-shell-hair (like chicken's feathers, short) and bare feet and is always surrounded by a cloud of little chicks. idk.)

general status check (monday)
May. 4th, 2009 11:29 amhealth: still sick. sick in this instance means 'somewhat stuffed up with sore throat and kind of wicked feverslightheadache combo package'. i've had worse sick. joints are fantastically sore. general exhaustion.
craftythings: imagining a kind of crocheted bucket hat with yellowyorange (no, it's nicer looking than you think) and turquoise linen yarn. problem: do not exactly know how to crochet yet. fortunately i have books and a big wide internet to teach me these things. also several amigurumi patterns. do not know if i have energy to do this today, however. nts: buy stuffing at sewing place during upcoming saturday sale. or something. also thinking about stuff
writingthings: percolating. have a few ideas in mind. must research poetry markets at some point. (hate researching markets but enjoy getting money.)
things i want: a small rolling table. i have many ideas which would greatly benefit from having one, so i could roll it up to the sofa and use it easily.
things i don't want to do but may have to find the energy to do anyway: find a new podiatrist. see why the mail order pharmacy phoned this morning. call and make an appointment with the kid's new dentist.
how are you?

roundup post
May. 1st, 2009 02:26 pmA lovely, productive month. i approve of it.
fanfic:
new jersey heat a cop AU which i came up with in the spur of the moment and it kind of ran away with me. may well do more with it should the muse decide.
one most immutable more monks!
kanyu amber/kutner fic on the afterlife bus.
body double house/13 porny oneshot. mmm.
eh, maybe dialogue only fic in which wilson is manipulated (or is he? stay tuned for a part two.)
exothermic major character deathfic. but other than that it's pretty good, i have to admit. (hard to talk more about it without giving it away.)
non-fanfic: (new policy: these stay unlocked for one week after this post and get flocked again. they may not be as popular as my fanfic but they are definitely more saleable and i'm trying to work towards that these days.)
and after short fiction in one hundred words.
fifty words of smut f/f smut in fifty words, duh.
lost in translation m/m smut, original characters.
poems: (same policy as original works above: these stay unlocked for one week after this post and get flocked again. same reasons.)
farewell, cassandra written for the 'nine things about oracles' project.
graphology about letters and metals and inks and words.

Apr. 28th, 2009 06:44 pmi always worry about poems.
her words are focused, precise
across the page; they line up neatly,
obeying orders, turned-out,
wrought black iron. measured strokes.
in this new world of fonts and formats
she is inked, indelible; inscrutable letterpress.
i scoop up her metal sorts and press them into my skin.

( the game started as a joke. )
feeling even better today. have been out and back again; weather cool and sunny, the way i like it. bought three baskets to organize desk area which i'm going to line with tea towels. (i scavenge linen tea towels. it's a texture thing. (on the off chance anyone has any they want to get rid of i will write fiction/send goodie packs for tea towels. really. same goes for tablecloths. you already knew that i'm weird, or you should have.)
have found a way to eat around the stitches. the only real difficulty is teeth brushing, it's only scary because i have visions of yanking out my stitches with a toothbrush and ending up in urgent care world again.
no word so far on the MRI.
i bought the world's awesomest bottle opener. it looks like a shark. <3
i have recieved the WORST formatted form letter i've ever seen. it's from Seattle Schools regarding Sean's extra orientation training over the summer. instead of deleting parts of it they've just crossed them out in strikethrough font so it has things like"i agree not to sue...." hysterical.
link today from
miintikwa: willy wonka and the publishing industry excellent advice about books and publishing.
other linkies: shark left on doorstep of newspaper in Victoria, Australia: police baffled someone's trying to put a local spin on the godfather?
bullet bounced off underwire in woman's bra. wow, those are actually good for something besides causing pain.
i haven't been around much lately but i've tried to keep up reading. how are you doing?

lightlikewater reminded me of this post I'd bookmarked, by
yuki_onna: how to sleep with a writer. this is ... possibly one of the most important posts i've ever read. because it's so very, very true.
miintikwa, who is a very good friend of mine, is trying to raise money to offset her cat's vet bills by offering tarot readings. she is very good at this (i don't tend to trust a lot of this sort of thing but there are several people that seem to hit the mark consistently with me. she is one of these people.) details for tarot readings are at her LJ or her site owl takes flight.
vaguely crummy things about today: sean got into my drawing pencils and i can't find one of them. i'm still kind of tired despite two naps. it's warmer than i'd like in here. i had a random panic attack and i'm not sure i'm completely over it despite klonopin, banana (for potassium - first nutrient your body loses when you're anxious) and emergency chocolate. i haven't really got much done today. sean strew the contents of the trash can across the living room while i was making his snack (which i wasn't able to make earlier because i fell asleep.)
cool things about today: i got some friend-love and some cat-love and some boy-love; the box set of 'blue planet: seas of life' arrived a day early, as did my meds; i got new shoes that fit okay; on disk five of the new box set there's an episode about the amazon (which is awesome because it has river dolphins!) and another episode of antarctica (which is awesome because DUH.) emily cleaned the apartment yesterday while i was in the mri.
*i think only canadians and expats will actually get this joke but i'm tired and irritable, so. it's hot in here. if you want to know feel free to ask.

hm, small improvements?
Apr. 15th, 2009 03:36 pmspent the day so far talking to
adularia, eating lunch, doing some minor internet goofing off and playing around with watercolor paint.
several things;
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
several things;
adularia is a fabulous girlfriend (i already knew this, as my girlfriends are both fabulous people. but it's always really great to have confirmation.)
- holy crap i really can spend nearly two hundred dollars at lands' end buying new shoes and work clothes and jackets without hardly trying, god everything is so expensive these days and that's with most of the stuff on sale.
- the previous statement made me both sound and feel incredibly old
- i am obviously not super fabulous with paints but i am not as bad as i think and i remember more of the various stabs at lessons than i thought i did. (i am trying not to give a damn about being zomgperfect and just let myself play with things.
- i'm hoping to unstick my brain by forcing it not to think about the normal things it chews on.
- it must have worked because while i was goofing around i thought of how the thing was going to start. (and don't worry, Lau Yuan will remain with us.)
- the past two days have been really good. clearly this early-bed thing is a good experiment and should go on.
- because we complained about the bus thing, kid is now last on the bus route home (because it's way easier on me if the driver brings him to the door and they can't leave the bus unless there are no other kids on the bus) and gets home at or around 4pm. (he loves the bus. it's a win/win situation.)
- madelines are my new favorite thing; they are so incredibly good. the perfect mix of cake and cookie. i need a madeline pan to make some at home.
and after: a tale in 100 words
Apr. 2nd, 2009 10:32 pmlight scattershot through the blinds; shining prison-bar tattooed across lean muscles. the day continues blissfully unaware as she sleeps deeply enough for both of us.
i trace the long lines of her - the blossoming curve of hips waist shoulders, the soft cup of a breast. she turns and the darkened nipple is revealed. i dare to kiss it, my tongue flickering out.
"What time is it?" Her voice is thickened by sleep and a hand with bitten nails tangles its way through her hair. "Time to go?"
The lie falls easily from my mouth. "Not yet, love. Not yet."

Apr. 1st, 2009 01:36 pmthey found her blue-lipped, wide-eyed-wild
raging hot: claimed fever-dreams, her drugs,
skin ravaged purple, a junkie's pox. her words
mean nothing, her body less.
but still
you trace her through the sheet: the arcs
of roman nose and collarbones, the wasted skin
had shadowed honest words. this late Cassandra
sang songs of fear and hunger most forgot.
they sink into your bones, and you will not.

march roundup post
Apr. 1st, 2009 09:37 ambetter than i thought, considering it's been kind of an emotional roller coaster of a month.
talking pictures: four dialogue only fics
saturday night special. i am proud of this one because i'd been working on it a while and it turned out far better than i expected (for which i credit
magie_05)
lunch break this also turned out better than i expected, especially considering i don't generally write hardcore bdsm. apparently i'm better at it than i thought. good to know.
and in non-fandom writings, a still-untitled poem that i'm quite proud of (and will leave unlocked for a few days and then possibly find a home for.)
what's good about this:
i think my poetry as a whole is getting better. i think i'm getting better at writing longer fics. those are two things i'm pleased with at the moment. i want to play with more poetry forms, because i like poetry forms. and i think i'm getting better at writing sex scenes at a realistic pace/length, you know, more like actual sex (god i hope that made sense.)
file that under 'things i do well' *creates tag*
part of my brain files this as 'bragging about myself' but i'm trying not to listen to that part

Slept in FAR later than i wanted to. this is such an ANNOYING cycle, sleeping in/not being able to get to sleep/sleeping in. AUGH.
Trying to rework my writing process/daily routine. As in 'need to set up routine/process rather than dicking around all day and then being annoyed/angry at myself when stuff doesn't get done'. this also means 'stop having as many irrational expectations' and 'learn to not beat up on self'. I'm working on it. It'll probably take a while. (need to call new neuro today.)
Kid's replacement MP3 player came in finally (there was a problem with the original unit even after upgrading the firmware; we had to send it back.) These are great for younger kids, and REALLY great for autistic/developmentally delayed kids. I can't reccommend them enough. (I also have a discount code if anyone wants it, so if you're looking to buy, let me know.)

(I also have a discount code if anyone wants it, so if you're looking to buy, let me know.)
clickies brought to you today by
joe_pike_junior, who is a relatively new and excellent friend,
deelaundry, without whom I would probably not be writing nearly as much fic (one could say she 'discovered' me. <3) and
miintikwa, who does fantastic tarot readings should you want to indulge (and is marvelous besides).
teeth found in wallet in wal-mart.
woman calls police 500 times over Seattle nightclub. apparently she's met one of
hithah's neighbors.
antarctic picture galleries. i linked to two specific ones last night regarding airplanes, but the larger set is amazing - lots of penguins, seals, sled dogs, amazing weather photos (this might interest
quasigeostrophy in particular), clouds, ice, etc. really amazing stuff.
woman calls 911 three times when mcnuggets run out.
man runs seven marathons on seven continents in six days. this is absolutely astounding. and he did it all for charity. just - wow.
most britons have lied about the books they've read. this is probably universal, i expect. :-)
the honorable will eat you. interesting post about trust and how it pays to be cautious.
feeling much, much better than yesterday. not entirely sure what was up with that. bah. looking to do something at least reasonably interesting today, especially since my pain levels are better and i managed to get some sleep, but am not sure what at the moment. I should make a list of museum exhibits that I want to see; I've always enjoyed that sort of thing, and I'm sure it'll be a nice bonus now that I'm able to use the chair. I know a lot of them have 'donate what you can' days. I'm going to take a bit of a writing holiday for a while because it's not coming as easily as it was. I hope it'll help. If anyone local has any suggestions I'm definitely interested.
I hope all of you are doing well. <3

race to save 200 whales and dolphins after mass stranding on Tasmanian beach. this makes me sad but i'm happy that they're being cared for.
fifty strange buildings of the world. these are SO AMAZING, eeee!
oldest sample of weapons-grade plutonium found on beach. eee, again!
today: must call oral surgeon after he gets back from lunch. pondering going out but not sure where. i want to try out wheelchair in museum setting but as i recall they're frequently closed on Mondays. trying to write for
purimgifts and somewhat failing on that front. vacuum hose is clogged again, damnit. aughfrustrating. pain today is about a four maybe five. better than yesterday and the day before i suppose. i know, isn't my life so exciting? you wish you were me, i know.
I'm so happy that the sun is coming up earlier. i have so much more energy this time of year.
i'm tempted to write a 'missing scene' fic in the merchant of venice where portia and nerissa are getting dressed as boys, but I'm getting stuck about it. possibly due to nervousness about iambic pentameter. also realize i do not have any physical copies of shakespeare's plays. (to me it matters. I like to hold the book in my hand. I can work with ebooks but they're not always my preferred medium. hm. maybe smallish trip to used book place is in order? yes, i think so. it's a nice day.

Feb. 25th, 2009 04:01 pmso:
i was feeling lousy and fretting over the school thing, so i went out. it was raining, which kind of sucked, but it wasn't too bad, and i took the wheelchair to the local fabric shop and bought the things to make a hat. (yes, really, i do know how to sew, although i'm rusty at it. i took a 'fashion arts' class in high school. try not to laugh, anyone who has seen the way i dress, mk? it was fun. we learned how to paint those model-figures and sewing and we listened to a hell of a lot of Air Supply because the teacher was into Slow Sad Sappy Songs. (that's what she called them.)
eta: this is the hat pattern: i'm making the second one (the skullcap). her patterns are ADORABLE (and some on the website are free, from the looks of things)
anyway, it's a cute bucket hat type thing. reversible. since
gizmometer helped me break in the sewing machine, i should be able to do this.
then i went next door, to babeland. (you wish you live here.) they were playing Radiohead, which gives them +50 coolness points: there's something strangely satisfying about poking around the store, surrounded by toys of all sizes and colors and lots of leather things hanging on the back wall, sniffing lubricant samples and rocking out to Radiohead. (the album was OK Computer. Stellar choice.)
then i came home and hung out for a while, and my awesome girlfriend sent me a Real Letter (<3!) and i had this amazingly awesome idea that requires PAINT SAMPLE CARDS. (i love those things.) so i have to go out when the boy (larger) gets home and can watch the boy (smaller).
many clickies today! these are brought to you mostly by
foxestacado (who once again has sent some really awesome stuff) and
dolphingirl (who is generally excellent.). they surprisingly have a marine-life focus today.
first tennis elbow, now playstation palm.
scientists solve mystery of deep sea fish with tubular eyes and transparent head. (another example of truth being stranger than fiction. seriously, this fish is amazing.)
771 pound stingray caught in Thailand
fish fossil clue to origin of sex.
girl born without legs gets prosthetic mermaid tail. OMFG. seriously. *flails*
boy is coming home early, in part so i can get paint sample cards. i loff him. <3
also: the new pornographers are kind of like Canada's version of Yes.

A dear friend of mine is doing a one-card tarot draw right now: if you're interested in that sort of thing I'd recommend her, because she's one of three people i trust to read my cards. Her post is here. <3
Today I'm trying to focus (preferably on writing).. I have done a whole bunch of things about going back to school (found out what form i need to fill out; found out the holds on my record in order to make them go away, etc. Am also looking for ways to get money coming in to make this whole process take less time. If I can relax enough to actually write I can submit more stuff to markets. nts: find market for microfiction; apply for writing jobs/gigs on craigslist. If anyone knows which temp agencies in Seattle don't suck too badly please let me know. I'll pretty much do anything except telemarketing.
Also: Bishop Gene Robinson will be leading opening prayer at Obama's inaugaration.

Many good things today. Looks like snow is melting finally: sidewalk outside our apartment is clearing and road is clear. Should definitely be passable with wheelchair (which is arriving Monday: SO EXCITED!!) Therefore I should be able to leave the apartment Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning. First stop: picking up packing supplies to send gifts. I'm hoping to get them all packed and ready to send out Wednesday between or before writing-date with
shadowgoddess42 (which might actually happen after several weeks of planning!) and picking up
gizmometer at the airport.
Still no packages from UPS/Fedex. Hoping for Monday. Frustrating. But given that is the worst thing right now, I'm pleased.
Today's maillove:
Card from
geekchick (yay!!)
Box of assorted crutch things to make ice more passable (now that I may not need them - but still is better to be prepared, always)
DVD with pictures from photoshoot I did with
silenceleigh (they are AMAZING.)
Our sofa is on its way from Everett. Should be here in about an hour.
I have TWO kitties beside me even without the magic blanket of cat summoning!
Sean is playing quietly in his room.
I will have time to write this afternoon which is always good; have a House-fic I'm working on (well, actually several) and the misfit-toys-steampunk thing is going nicely. Also I should think about writing goals for 2009.
Planning on baking cookies this afternon or tomorrow. Also will see
zaratyst and
mholmesiv tomorrow at some point, bearing cake!
Should call birthmother at some point (is her birthday today.)
other chores today: quick pass with vacuum, move current sofa to new location so this spot is free for new sofa. clean cat box. Finish doing Amazon Fresh order (will be shipped tomorrow morning). Laundry. Plan meals for coming few days/week. Research types of ice cream to make whilst
gizmometer is here. Work out plan for holiday cookies (four types I think if possible: nanaimo bars, butter tart bars, gingersnaps, shortbread of some type.)
How are you?

ever glade (a tale in 100 words)
Dec. 18th, 2008 10:35 pmThe path dissolves.
Within is silence, sharp and beautiful.
The air is cold and still; it snaps like a breaking bone, a falling icicle, skin between two fingers. Everything is shades painted on shadows; dark jagged curves of stone, palest rings as a water-strider defines surface tension.
Voices cast their own ripples through the air.
--You have to do it ---
I can't ... what if
She knows about the -- she'll --
-- need the money, right?
Right. Right..
The fog parts, allows them entry.
Three weeks later:
Bones, picked clean, scoured white: the only markers on a disappearing path.

I'm sleepy and out of it (goddamn Lamactil; I'm also forgetting small things, falling asleep all the time - or maybe it's the idiotic robo-caller from Seattle Schools that woke us up at oh dark thirty to tell us they'd cancelled Sean's bus service, the bastards) (just for the day, not permanently, but because of the damnable snow/ice. we're trying to figure out what to do about that.) so these links are stolen wholesale from
thewlisian_afer, who is awesome and mighty with the clickiefinding.
charred monkey meat found in man's luggage.
actor slashes his own throat due to a prop mix-up
wife calls police after husband scares her with Viagra results. (there's a divorce waiting to happen, imo)
Macbean has great clickies all the time: you should go over there and take a look. <3 Me, I'm going to bludgeon myself into writing SOMETHING. This is ridiculous. Over two weeks and nothing. Maybe I should just do what I was going to and use this book of prompts to write something every day ...
EW. a piece of apple just flew across the room and hit me in the cheek. Probably out of the boy's stimmie. it's a good thing i wear glasses: i don't want to go to urgent care world because of an injury sustained by an apple.
Edit: OMG this is fabulous: real life cat burgular caught stealing toys from neighboring homes. - from my sweet and smart and generally amazing GF.

november roundup post
Nov. 29th, 2008 04:32 pmThere are several things missing from this month's roundup post, largely because I sent them off to see if they could make me a little money and they are since locked down. There are also several things that are currently in active development. So my month is more productive than this post would make you believe and I'm happy about that.
The two left are:
in the waiting line. anyone who enjoyed
euclase's dark side of the moon AU? This piece is written in that 'verse. (If you read fanfic and haven't read
euclase's DSOTM AU, I strongly encourage you to do so, because it is freaking AWESOME. And then if you liked it come back and read this, because I'm actually rather proud of it.
oh canada (an expatriate's love song) I do not write poetry as a general rule, but I wrote this (and another poem that is off seeing if it can make me money) this month. Huh. I suppose that makes me a poet or something. Or something.
