phinnia: smiling dolphin face (rhozoids)
I have weirdly low tolerance levels for certain things. I'm always reluctant to comment that I like Great Big Sea around others, because if they do also then they'll want to put it on and it's a good bet that I won't want to hear it. Celtic/folk music is strange - I can't listen to it unless I'm in the mood for it, but a lot of others don't seem to have that.
Maybe it's because of overexposure? I've had my fair share of roommates and friends obsessed with GBS/folk/celtic/Carbon Leaf over the years.
Or maybe it's because I heard GBS for yonks before they were popular down here. (You can take the girl out of Canada, but not Canada out of the girl. It'll always be 'down here.)
(Although I admit to my own mild obsessions. I could concievably play all six Radiohead albums back to back. Maybe it's the sound? The artists I like tend to have many different types of sounds within their catalog. Celtic and folk tend to have a lot of the same sounds (instrumentation/chords.))
I swear I've written this before. Oh well. Sometimes reruns come on. :-D

Incidentally, for those of you reading [livejournal.com profile] 7sinsspinning, yes, I will be posting something this week, I swear. Dry spells happen. :P And I'd rather have it good than have it fast. I'm sure you would too.
(Shut up, Beavis.)
I know what the next part's going to be (finally!) - it's just in that greenhouse-headspace where words live before they grow into sentences. I also have Zephyr|Allanna fanfic to finish this week, too.

Why, oh why did they put out the first season of L&O: CI on DVD (too many TLAs, delete superfluous entries) and the third season, but not the SECOND SEASON? *hits head on desk* What is wrong with you people? They did that with the other L&O series, but I'm feeling it keenly with CI. Of course, that's because I'm a squealing Goren fangirl.
That reminds me, the season premieres are on this week. I hope the new detective doesn't suck. It's gonna be weird without Briscoe.
And Food Network, why did you have to put Alton on at the same time as Law and Order? I hate you.
I need something analagous to a TiVo. Must get media-server. (There are reasons we don't want a vanilla TiVo.)

Also waiting for Sean's new headstart teacher to call us already. I want to get this thing on the road. *kicks tires*
Why do people apparently kick the tires when buying a car? Is there a purpose for that, or is it just akin to pressing the elevator button too many times?

I fail to comprehend why Where's Waldo is on the banned/challenged books list. I mean, what is wrong with Waldo?
Seriously, I have no idea why half of them are on there.

I had a computer science professor who we shall call Phil Ventura (because that was his name) who had several fundamental laws about the world as he saw it.
I loved this guy. I remember one random day when people kept coming into class late and it was obviously pissing him off, and he turned to the class and said, "the next person that comes in that door is getting a great big hug".
And of course, some poor ESL student walks in, and Ventura stops lecturing, walks over to him and gives him a huge hug.
...
I just realized that a portion of the character of Ross Matthews was probably based on this weirdo.
But anyway, Ventura had fundamental laws about life.
1. Other people suck.
2. We are all fundamentally lazy.
3. Our stuff is always better than anyone else's stuff.
I've found them often true over the years. Not always. But often. Too often for my own comfort.
Phil rocked. Anyone that used headless snowboarders to demonstrate concepts is cool in my book.
I had a math teacher once that used sheep to demonstrate types of numbers. It got interesting when she got into fractional sheep or negative sheep. (They got eaten. Or died and they had to borrow more sheep to get their breeding stock back. Just so's you know.)
phinnia: (herself the elf)
1. The new CSU guy on Law and Order (Beck, the young excitable guy)? My future auxiliary backup husband. Oh yeah. *drool* Almost more than Goren.
Almost. Loves me the geeky smart ones, I do. We'll just have Jamie Ross on the side to share.

2. The head start home visit is Wednesday, just so you know. Hopefully he'll start next week. Rock on.

3. Pictures in [livejournal.com profile] pdxpix of Mill Ends Park - the smallest park in the world, I think - 24 inches in diameter (60cm). (Does this count as [livejournal.com profile] mactavish-porn?) It even has leprechauns. According to the legend.

4. [personal profile] phinnia
*squee* Dolphin dolphin dolphin!
