phinnia: smiling dolphin face (girlsnuggle)
This morning I have already done two loads of laundry, tried a new scone recipe, defleaed the cats, changed Seaners' bedding, and realized I still don't have a good dessert recipe for dinner tomorrow. And slept in until nine. I feel positively decadent. Maybe those chocolate sweet potato bars?
Speaking of cooking: Anthony Bourdain has some funny things to say in the NY Post. (link from [livejournal.com profile] yendi).
My tofurkey is getting delivered this afternoon by the yummy hunky delivery man. And I like tofurkey. I have them every thanksgiving and christmas.
I should probably not mention that the weather is mild enough today to leave the window open?
Oops.
(Someday I'll get used to Pacific NW winters. That day is not today.)
And now, I'm off to peruse my cookbooks in search of a dessert recipe. I'm looking for a cookie/cake thing - I suck at pie crust, and I don't feel like going out to get one. Someday I want a food processor so I can just whip one up in that. When I get a bigger kitchen. Yes.
Another thing to try making: crumpets. I never appreciated crumpets until I tried good freshly made ones from the Crumpet Shop in Seattle (as opposed to those leathery tasting prepackaged ones.)
Damnit, I'm hungry now.

yay, date

phinnia: smiling dolphin face (holy hand grenade of antioch)
I get to see Sky Captain at the cheap theater and pub Sunday afternoon. Three dollar movies rock. I wanted to see the Incredibles, but evenings weren't going to work for that and I refuse to see the Black Weekend matinee of a kids' movie, because I'd probably get eaten alive. Besides, here they let you take pizza and beer in. What can be better than that?
And if that's sold out, we'll see Breakfast at Tiffany's (which I've already seen, so I'd rather see Sky Captain, but it's an excellent choice for a backup.)
Have now also filled out my FAFSA, which was quick and painless. Apparently I'm making up for two days worth of sloth in one day of mass productivity.
Looking at what we have on hand for desserts, have decided on carrot pudding (which is apparently like a mini-carrot-cake and I get to use my ramekins) and spiced pumpkin bars. Will likely save [livejournal.com profile] dandelion_diva's recipe for Chrismas cookies though. :-D

sloth
Does anyone (other than grandmothers, and considering both my grandmothers are dead at the moment, I can't ask them) still make those mittens-with-a-string? If I paid for yarn/time, anyone want to make some for a three year old? My Inner Knitting Demon isn't really up to mittens (my inner knitting demon is still trying to figure out yarn tension and not lose count of stitches, god forbid anything else), and I want to find some for Seaners. I'm leery of sending him to school with regular mittens, because one of them will inevitably get lost. How come you can't find those any more? Is sad.

indecisiveness
I should mention that I finally finished picking at my schedule. After realizing that I didn't want two heavy writing classes the first term back, I finally decided on intro to fiction, popular culture, survey of music lit (online), communication and gender (partly online - meets on campus for the first two weeks and finals week) and water aerobics. Hey, maybe if I'm actually taking that last one pass/fail I might actually show up. I'm bad with the sloth. I have these fits of productivity. And apparently at the moment, fits of sloth. *sloths*

serendipity
I swear I had no idea that 'vanderschpiegle' translates to 'looking glass', nor did I know that St. Anthony was the patron saint of Lost Things.
