phinnia: (herself the elf)
muse
Mine has at least conditionally returned from her vacation, sporting a jaunty sunburnt nose and the distinct odor of Hawaiian Tropic. I think she just had a problem with that assignment. Of course, she wasn't too impressed with the next one, but I think that more had to do with the fact that I had about 1/4 of the amount of time I normally do. But they're done.
This weekend I have the last music assignment due, and then I'm mostly done for the quarter. I say 'mostly' because there's also the writing final - in lieu of a final exam, we have to edit one of the stories we've submitted (either midterm or final) and 'write a letter explaining why we deserve the grade we think we deserve.' So I have to come up with a way to kill my usual tendency toward self-efficacy and explain why I deserve an A. This is much harder than the editing.
And Monday we do a cold reading, which means I have to actually READ "In Theory" to the entire class. Did I mention I truly hate public speaking? Did I mention I'm vaguely worried that I'm going to be descended upon by rabid pro-creationists and killed with sharpened bibles? So if you never see me again I'll be lying in a pool of my own blood with a right-wing fundamentalist tract sticking out of my heart. Just so you know.

Trial By Jury
I liked it - it's a good spin they've put on the formula; I really like Det. Salazar a lot. (I almost think he would have been better than Fontana - maybe they were trying to avoid the whole 'young cop' thing? I don't know.) Certainly more likely to watch that than SVU recently. If I see one more Olivia-Benson-centric episode, I'm going to scream. What happened to that show? If you watch the reruns of the first few seasons there was no 'star', there was the squad, and they worked together, and Munch and Fin got more than one line each per month. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we're doing the big setup for Olivia and Elliot getting it on, blah blah whatever, who didn't see THAT coming EIGHTEEN MILES OFF as soon as Stabler and his wife split up? Who's writing their scripts these days, Margaret Atwood? They're certainly chock full of obvious symbolism and GURL POWER.
(Note: I have no problem with feminism, feminists, or strong women - ask me about my mother and her chainsaw. But life craves balance, and I hate being whacked in the head with a point.)

docket
Today: cleaning out stack of boxes and such so new desk has place to live. Class. (with stop at bookstore and ATM machine). Catching up on [livejournal.com profile] non_plot. Possibly beginning final music assignment, possibly not. It's not due until Monday, I have a little time. Making apple cobbler to get rid of the excess apples we've got. It's not pie (PIE) but it comes close. I can't make pie crust, and I don't feel like going shopping.
