The boy actually stepped up onto the bus himself, rather than needing to be lifted up. *beam* Biiiiiiiiiig steps onto a school bus for three year old legs, but he is Determined.
We got new school pictures, too - these are excellent, almost better than the last ones, I'd say. I'll have to actually remember to scan them.
Curiosity to the other parents/teachers in the room: Is it standard protocol to notify parents of holidays where school is closed TWO CLASS DAYS BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS START? Because this morning the bus driver says to me, "You do know there's no school for the next two weeks, yes?"
"Uh, no?" says I.
"Oh yeah."
Thank you for INFORMING ME, Carlyn. If I had KNOWN I would have not had him miss yesterday for the hearing test (which ended up not happening as he was still a little too sick anyway, but that's not the point, is it?). So I email Carlyn, all sweetness and light, saying "oh, are things not getting sent home? Because I didn't know about this."
She emails me back. "The calendars are getting sent home to everyone today."
Uh ... okay, that's nice, but wouldn't it have been much more thoughtful to either put this information online or what have you? Or at the very least give you more than TWO DAYS NOTICE? I mean, I do realize thatthe fact that I don't anticipate his every mood swing and carve his oatmeal into a replica of mount Rushmore every morning while singing sweet educational songs about dead presidents means that he's obviously going to grow up to be an axe murderer, but I do honestly have other things going on like classes (*GASP, how could I, motherhood is supposed to be the ultimate destiny, I'm not supposed to want a 'rest of my life'.*) and I will actually need to find child care. Really.
Wow, that got ranty, didn't it?
I'm just sick of the supermommy myth. I don't know anyone like that, I have no idea where this crud comes from. Another dimension, surely.
(Don't call me Shirley.)
I don't know, that just strikes me as somewhat irresponsible on their part. Maybe I'm overreacting.
Anyway! School pictures, I'll scan them later. They had a little bonus in this package - sticker-backed pictures. Am I wrong, or can you get those in photobooths in Japan now? Along with all the good cellphones?

The funniest half hour I ever spent
Mar. 16th, 2005 05:23 pmDisclaimer: I rarely read fanfic. But this is the funniest piece of fanfic ever written. It is long, and it is probably not worksafe (textually speaking, especially near the end), but it is friggin' hilarious. I got CHRIS to read this, and he reads even less fanfic then I do. Seriously, it's brilliant.
