Short version:
Appointment was long. Child does not respond well to chloral hydrate, dislikes having things poked in his ears (they had to examine his ears before to make sure they weren't infected and it took two nurses plus both parents to hold him still). New fun wow stuff: he has tactile issues with surgical tape and related stuff. I have low blood sugar and a raging headache and I NEVER WANT TO DO THAT AGAIN EVER KTHXBYE. My husband is the best husband in the world because he managed to hold the child for over two hours and still does not want to divorce me (I had to leave the room; they were using alcohol wipes, which set off my raging headache in part).
But his hearing is fine. (He doesn't listen to us, but that's an entirely different problem.)
Dead now.

The Writing Life, by Stephen King.
(I loved 'On Writing'. I'm not into horror much as a genre - just not my thing - but I do like some of King's stuff, and he knows his craft.)
Discworld wedding cake.
(OMG AWESOME.)
