Things procured on trip out:
Library books (including "The Man Who Ate Everything" and "101 Diseases You Don't Want To Have") (is it weird that I squealed like a little girl at the inclusion of plague? Yes, I expect so.)
Groceries (Trader Joe's WINS at LIFE).
A packet on how to become a naturalized US citizen (which includes all paperwork, how much it costs (675, including the fingerprint fee for the fingerprints they'll likely lose again) and the answers for the citizenship exams!)

Productive. Now I will have salad.

I love watching people unload their carts at the grocery store. I'm weird like that. I try to draw conclusions about them based on what they're buying. There was a woman in TJ's today who bought nothing but vegetables and wine - I figure she's on Atkins. The woman ahead of me in line had four boxes of Puffins, which is the soggiest breakfast cereal known to man, and five bags of salad.

I wonder what people think of my grocery cart. Probably that I eat a lot of bread (actually the kid does, but at least it's wholegrain) and frozen things. Probably that I eat no vegetables at all except bananas, which is a lie, actually - I just get them delivered on Wednesdays in one of those organic bins, but the kid goes through bananas like they're about to be discontinued due to lack of interest.

The best one I ever saw was a guy who bought ten bottles of water and a mango.

Odd story: my birthmother used to go to supermarkets late at night when she was working split shifts and saunter down the aisles shouting 'bring out your dead! bring out your dead!" She may still do it. This is the kind of stock I come from.

Where would one find Extract of Malt? I miss malt bread very, very much (you can't find it here - it's hard to find in Canada, although if one of my Canadian-based friends wants to find some and mail it to me I would love you forever, not that I already don't of course) and I found a recipe here, but it requires Extract of Malt, which I've never encountered before except in Winnie-The Pooh when Tigger was trying to figure out what Tiggers eat. And I don't think they'll ship from the Hundred Acre Wood.
