phinnia: smiling dolphin face (latte heart)
I have yet to figure out how the heat works in this apartment, which means that every single joint in my body is all 'HI THAR PAIN FOR YOU HA HA HA.' every morning. We have heaters and thermostats but the heating controls lack any sort of indicator as to what is 'on', nevermind temperature.

So anyway - happy Friday; my kitchen is about half-unpacked, and I even got to have coffee in one of my own gigantic mugs this morning. Very reassuring, that.

Today's plan: perhaps unpack a small amount, largely relax, and hopefully some writing. My dreams are insanely detailed these days; I dreamed a whole cyberpunk 'verse this morning that may well fit in with the geishas.

Tomorrow evening is Chris's department's holiday party. I am half hoping to get a haircut before then.

Clickies of clickiness:

[livejournal.com profile] euclase is quite possibly one of my favorite people in the universe. These links are a good example of why. <3 Nautilus shaped house (I so want to live there, but I may have to content myself with knitting one instead) and Spend time with your own private moon. (I seem to recall one of these pics was on musecrack a while back, but this one has MORE OF THEM, and they are AMAZING.)

And from the most awesome and brilliant [livejournal.com profile] shutterbug_12: the most disturbing animals on earth..

edit: I forgot to post this earlier. As of now I have done a small amount of unpacking (meaning - one kitchen box, moved a few small nonessential pieces of furniture to the closet, set up the table) and I think I will call that done for a little while. We sort of almost have a dining room, which is very good; this weekend when [livejournal.com profile] tallin is home we can probably make more headway on it. I think if we can get the kitchen, coats/blankets for the hall closet and bathroom finished this weekend (all the blankets and coats are in garbage bags, the bathroom has only one box left to do and the kitchen has two or three) that will be good.

I can hear planes more easily from here, and a train in the distance.

son of edit: you know who else does amazing clickies? [livejournal.com profile] thewlisian_afer. I'm just going to link the most recent post in its entirety because it is truly amazing.
phinnia: a handful of blueberries (blueberries in hands)
So I went out today, to do a few things. I wanted to get my hair cut, and I did (pictures later, i promise: i'm going out tomorrow night, so there will be pictures of that, anyway.) The bus trip planner put me about four blocks south of where I wanted to be, but it was a nice day and my pain levels were doing alright so I decided to walk.

I walked past the Traveller's Tea Company Store, which is in two parts: a shop with food/essential oils/herbal medicines/small devotional statues, and another shop with everything else (books/music/clothing/incense/etc.) They used to have little blessing cards that you could buy if you were looking for certain auspicious events, and I wanted to get one for [livejournal.com profile] machineplay's novel, if I could find a good one. Sadly I failed to find that, but I did find the poster of Ganesh I was looking for, and I got a free calendar (similar to those ones you get at Chinese restaurants, except, well, Indian) and also something for my Secret Santa that is kind of cute.

Then I got the haircut, and started thinking about dinner; and I came back to the Traveler's shop because it's by the bus stop and decided to pick up some samosas and some chickpea dumplings I've forgotten the name of. And I thought it would be particularly awesome of me to actually cook, so I found the box with the rice cooker in it and put water and rice in it and went to start it up -

And failed. Because the cord was missing.

Now you must understand that a good part of the kitchen was packed by our respite provider Zelle. I love her dearly but her logic is not like my logic or perhaps anyone else's logic. We already knew this, because we found a tray and several small wotsits that were on top of the microwave inside the microwave - instead of the glass turntable that goes round and round with your food on it. That was found in another subsequent box with the wine glasses and one of my pickle trays and a few gluten free flours. So it was not particularly surprising that we found the rice cooker and not the cord.

And we decided 'okay, we know where three kitchen boxes are (it turned out to be four) and it MUST be in one of them.'

So we unpacked several boxes. Mostly food, which I put away, and it was kind of nice, because I am a child of poor working class parents who occasionally worries about money and so we have enough 'pantry food' to possibly withstand a small three or four day siege. Lots of rice and beans and dals and spices etcetera etcetera. Unfortunately I also have a sketchy longterm memory so I buy these things and forget about them entirely. And we found a box of dishes, which we put away. But there was still no rice cooker cord.

So now Chris has gone to pick up some takeout because it is ten o' clock and I am too goddamn tired to cook now thanksverymuch. And we have about six less boxes (i unpacked two on the way to getting the rice cooker) and have still not found the rice cooker, but i have a somewhat amusing anecdote about why, at least. I'm sure I'll find the rice cooker cord in a box with cereal or something. But that will have to be tomorrow. At least.
