phinnia: hand holding rock in pool (hand with rock)
went to the osteopath this afternoon. he did a series of very gentle 'adjustments' to my back, neck and shoulders (and tried to do my hips, but since my right leg is nearly a full inch shorter my pelvis is always going to be skewed, The End). apparently i have more involuntary muscle tone than anyone he's ever treated. my shoulders were very uncooperative, but everything else was somewhat better. he might not be able to help a lot of my joint pain issues but he can definitely make me more flexible, and i do get some back and shoulder pain that might be helped too.

took about a half hour to forty minutes. no pain involved at all. highly recommended. (it's kind of like a chiropractor for bones, [personal profile] anahcrow said, and i like that description.)

i'm seeing him again next week.

tomorrow [livejournal.com profile] doubletake is coming to visit and do paperwork for babysitting and hang shelves and baskets for me. yay! and friday i have the sleep specialist.

things i may not have mentioned here: sean's school pictures came back on Monday - they're excellent except that his eyes were closed. i don't mind. <3 i minded the one year when he was crying in them, but in these he's sitting still and looks good and well dressed and is (almost) smiling, so i'll take that and run with it.

also my green card should hopefully be here within the next month, which is AWESOME, because then i can get my social security card and start filing for my passport and all that sort of stuff.

clickies thanks to [livejournal.com profile] dolphingirl, [livejournal.com profile] bookgirlwa, [livejournal.com profile] datagoddess, [livejournal.com profile] mactavish and [livejournal.com profile] epi_lj.

this one makes me so fucking angry for this woman: my son has cancer. he can't go into daycare because of unvaccinated children. seriously, jenny mccarthy and her ilk (which also apparently include Joe Lieberman and Robert F. Kennedy, according to the most recent Wired magazine article on the subject) should be held responsible for this shit.

(the pertussis study is especially sobering. worth reading JUST for that alone, especially if you have children.)

NEEPING OTTER OMG

alien abduction lamp very cool (but omfg the price!)

five year old boy sleepwalks to school my mother used to sleepwalk. she locked herself in a closet once.

no, sorry, that's it for the story. <3

magpies hold funerals i <3 birds. related: the second most recent photo in this gallery - the one with the gorillas from Cameroon - is amazing. (the third one is amazing too due to the PENGUIN. but the gorilla pic is more topical. they're all really good. god, i <3 national geographic so hard.

new species of orb spider weaves enormous webs pretty much what it says on the tin.

light sabers used to cauterize battlefield wounds OMG COOL.

when parents are too toxic to tolerate

86 year old WWII veteran on marriage equality: "what do you think i fought for?" video, but also transcript. made me choke up.

and also extra hugs and congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] cindy_lou_who8, who got a job offer today! (it was only a matter of time before someone noticed her awesomeness, but they could have hurried up a bit. that said, this job sounds excellent and i hope it's a great placement. she deserves it.)
