phinnia: (herself the elf)
Stuff I'd take to a desert island with me?

One celebrity: Alton Brown.
Two Books: Life After God - Douglas Coupland, and the New York City Public Library Desk Reference.
Three Edibles: cheddar cheese curds, assorted berries (especially raspberries and blackberries) and raisins mixed in with peanut butter.
Four movies: Waking Ned Devine, the Usual Suspects, My Law and Order CI boxed set (mmm, Goren - I would definitely take Vincent D'Onofrio with me on said desert island if Alton was unavailable) and The Birdcage
Five CDs: The Weakerthans - Left and Leaving, Radiohead - OK Computer, OK Go (self titled), Ben Folds Five - The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner, The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots.

According to [livejournal.com profile] boingboing_net, squirrels scream ultrasonically. I demand to know what the hell [livejournal.com profile] kolys' thing is with squirrels, or I will start an adopt-a-rodent-program to ensure he doesn't bite them hard and taste their tinny blood, or something.

It's a Friday that feels like a Saturday. Tomorrow there will be Shakespeare and brunch. Mmm. It is satisfyingly cool and cloudy. YES. Bring it on. No heat! Sunshine in moderation! We like COLD AND RAINY, precious!
Yes, I am aware I have SAD. It's also much easier to deal with than my reaction to heat which is aggravated by my terrible circulation.
Trying to decide on courses for fall. I don't know, I just don't. Should I take tech writing because that'll pay the bills, or should I take QuarkXPress and creative or script writing because in my soul that's what I really /want/ to do?
Short films, man. Nothing like 'em. I love short films as an art form.
I have to clean the place ... sometime. *flollops*
phinnia: smiling dolphin face (light and shade)
The area where the tree sunk into the ground had always been of peculiar importance to the town. No one could remember the tree's precise origins, but it was fairly certain that it predated any kind of settlement there. Perhaps Eonia's first settlers had decided to stop there to water their packbeasts late one blisteringly hot afternoon and decided to stay for the ample shade and the fruits that hung heavy on its branches in late summer. Allanna liked to think of it as happening that way; that went along with the little conceit she had that the tree had a soul, a personality, that it was drawing others toward it. It made her feel better to think that there was some kind of great purpose behind the existence of everything, even something so simple as a tree or a plant.

Because if a tree had a purpose, then it followed that she would also have a purpose. For something. Something lofty and important. Or at least something out of the mud.
