I can breathe again. Properly. I slept nearly seven hours without waking up once. My nose is not constantly stuffy.
That hasn't happened in months. MONTHS. Obviously I have some kind of allergy to something; what exactly is beyond me, and the diagnosis will have to wait until we have money to spend on the tests, but ... I can BREATHE again.
Also: that bio-tene mouthwash is concentrated awesome in a bottle.

September 30 is Museum Day across the US. Free admission to participating museums, check the site for what's in your area. I found out recently that there's a Kite Museum in Long Beach, WA. Not that I know where that is, mind, but the idea of a kite museum is cool.
I'm pondering going to the museum of history and culture, because I am a nerd.

In the 'well, duh' camp: we are genetically programmed to resist weight loss. Dude, of course we are. The body's freaking out and figures it's a famine.

Today I'm getting Sean's hearing tested at 2:30. Happy calming thoughts in his direction most appreciated.

Reading: 'Interpreter of Maladies' by Jhumpa Lahiri, in a further obsession with books about the indian subcontinent. It's lovely. I'm also becoming obsessed with memoirs that contain recipes. When I grow up I want to be a nutritional anthropologist.

Further: looking at UW's graduate anthro program may be a bad idea. *drools* Fieldwork. Abandoned volcanic islands. Fossils. Mmm, neat. Competitive admission. Not so neat.
(Don't even ask me about the museum studies program. I'd love to get into that, but you may need a signed note from a major deity.)

So, as expected, the boy failed his hearing test. (Which only definitely means that he may not have understood what they wanted him to do, or that he's not interested in Raffi as a reward, for the moment.) Next step: sedated hearing thingy. We get put on the waiting list for that after the nurse calls me and runs through the questionnaire to figure out whether they need an anesthesiologist or just a sedation nurse. That's probably going to happen in November or late October sometime. It's a three hour appointment. Whee, exciting.
(Actually I'm not sure whether I'm looking forward to this or I'm scared to death. Ask me again later.)

Children's Hospital is vast, but the staff are very nice and understanding and willing to work with you. Two paws up for that. Seaners attempted to steal the greeter-person's mousepad. This probably indicates a future life of crime.

Looks like the boy will be moving classrooms - the classroom he's in now has a lot of kids that need a flexible schedule due to medical conditions, and he needs a fairly structured routine, so. Don't know if that means moving classrooms or schools yet. IEP next week, probably Wednesday. Still have to write out list of questions I need to ask.

I baked two loaves of fruited quickbread and a big pan of veggie-cheese cornbread. The house smells great, even if I am thoroughly exhausted.
