rfc: socks

So I have some of this yarn coming to me (I know it says 'out of stock'. I ordered it last week.)

Which do you prefer:

Jaywalker sock pattern.
Here there be dragons sock pattern.
Or some other sock pattern? I'm also wanting to do Widdershins (of course the cable version) but I'm thinking that might be too busy with the cables as distinct as they are.)

I have access to all of those patterns, having bought the second pattern because I could not resist the idea of dragony socks. But I can't decide now. :P

evening ramble

I have figured out what to buy for tallin's birthday gift - over a month in advance. This must be some kind of amazingly lucky new record, or something.
(tallin is stupidly impossible to buy for because he wants things like software that costs thousands of dollars. If it's cheaper, he'll just buy it himself. He's annoying that way.)

Small annoying non-victories: My birth certificate is STILL 'under review'. Jesus Christ. I have airplane tickets to Victoria that expire in October, damnit, and I'm starting to worry that I won't be able to use them. They've had my 'updated application' for a solid month; the original application was filed in JUNE. This is ridiculous. Will call them tomorrow, fruitless as I'm sure that's going to be. Dear Parents of the World, try not to have your children in Ontario, because Ontario Vital Records will give them hell and heartaches until they die (and probably afterward.)

My high school transcript application was, naturally, screwed up in processing: UW for some bizarre reason requires two copies, and that was clearly noted on the form that was sent, and yet for some reason only one copy of the transcript was actually sent. Apparently two more copies were sent yesterday. Only two weeks until the application deadline. (Fortunately they honour postmark dates.) If I can't get in because of some administrative error, I am So Incredibly Not Going To Be Happy.
I hate how no matter how hard I try to do things in a timely manner they always end up getting shoved to the last possible minute, often through no fault of my own. ARGH. I don't like having to fret and worry and then come down from panic/adrenalin highs.
