Child Care Action Project: Christian Analysis of Popular Culture.
Want a good laugh? Check out the movie reviews. Seriously. These people have a problem with Babe. Their review of South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut had me in tears.
(Althought I don't see why they have a problem with 'lust for war'. I thought the super-right-wing christofascists were all about war.)
(Note: I am not saying all Christians are that way. But I have noticed a correlation between those who go out of their way to look for specifically Christian content in traditionally secular areas of culture and the weird, right wing people that give decent Christians a bad name. End of disclaimer. Carry on.)

Today's quest: attempting to get Sean an appointment at Alternative and Augmented Communication (part of the SLP department at Children's.) I'm hoping to get him some kind of communication device type widget; hopefully this will decrease his frustration at not being able to communicate what he wants.
(I don't know why I didn't think of this before. Why didn't I think of this before?)
Anyway, the doctor's signed off on it, so he'll be evaluated for that soon. Must call tomorrow to make an appointment. YAY.
(I adore our doctor; he takes the attitude of 'you know what you need, so whatever you need me to do, let me know.' Anyone who needs a pediatrician in the Seattle area, you could do much worse than UW Roosevelt Pediatrics (our guy is Dr. Metz.)

Have also discovered Etsy. Aren't these tights cute? I bought them this morning. :-)

In search of: a screenprinting class in the Seattle area, preferably one that doesn't cost the earth.

Bush seeks to block enemies from space.

So if the Cylons come, they're in big trouble now. Bush signed a paper.

I suppose this is about as logical as plastic ziplock bags being our ultimate shield against terrorists.

Travelling study boxes at the Burke museum.
(Seriously, these are awesome. For $30/2 wks plus shipping they actually ship you a really awesome box full of neat stuff from various cultures/places/about a certain topic. Some of you homeschool ..)
(I heart the Burke. Anyone local want to go to the Day of the Dead exhibit with me?)

How feminism is NOT undermining evolution (despite what some people have to say.)

Black and white and desired all over.
(Worth it just for the interesting notion of 'panda porn'. Nothing to do with furries, I promise.)

Why making playgrounds less safe is important: teaching our children to assess risk appropriately.

(I need an anthro geek userpic.)

Seen everywhere, but most recently from the lovely [livejournal.com profile] seattlejo (slightly edited):

"The first five people to respond to this post will get some form of art made by me. I make no guarantees about quality or type, but I will assure that I will give it good effort and that the art will be individual to you, so if you get a mixed CD or some sort of paintingdoodle, yours is the only one like it.

The format may vary greatly. It could be a cd, something knit, writing (ha!), something cooked, something baked, or something else random.

The only catch, of course; as with most memes, if you sign up, you have to put this in your own journal as well."

(God alone knows how long this will take.)

I'm pondering this slipcover (in cinnabar) and this curtain (in turquoise). Yes, no? I like stripes.
