I found out (or possibly re-found out) that Chris can play portions of the last track on Shepherd Moons (Enya) on the recorder. (Sometimes he still surprises me.)

This week we should find out for sure about the move to Boston. *crosses fingers*

Emailed Mr. Fiction Writing Dude. I suppose I'll find out one way or another tomorrow. *crosses toes, to go along with fingers*

Seaners is starting to put together more and more word approximations. I have no idea why he felt the need to say 'bombay' yesterday ... *insert pause for drive by hugging here*. Recent food victories: gardenburger. And hugging. He's into the hugging.

I had a MAJOR BRAINWAVE yesterday, actually. I have to wonder if it's the fact that the liquid in a cup is too thin. Because he'll take medicine out of a cup (yes, I know. He won't drink juice or eat chocolate or cookies but he WILL take medicine! The child is a FREAK.) but not the same amount of juice or milk out of the same type of dosage cup. So I emailed people (sweetly bitching at them about their lack of progress or interest in fixing this) and mentioning this and asking ONCE AGAIN for a feeding consult, mentioning the idea I had - about thickening the liquid a little, because cold medicine is ever-so-slightly thicker than milk or water, and he's got more control over how much liquid he's getting because it flows slower. I'm not expecting an immediate response as they're off this week, but here's hoping there might be some progress. (Yes, we have tried sippy cups. Four different brands. De nada. Screams, throws across room, tantrum. Open cup not work either, neither does paper cup, or little dixie cups you get at the dentists' office ... I haven't tried glass cups, but that's because I'm not an idiot.)

Okay, you know those cookies, the ones with biscuit on the bottom and then jam and then marshmallow and the whole thing was covered with chocolate? What the hell were they called? This is making me crazy.

This afternoon? Music class. And pizza.

Okay, if Microsoft are money-grubbing no-account bastards, then how come the upgrade to the next version (not a major release, just an upgrade, as indicated by the version number of 10.4 -) is $130-odd dollars, and MS lets you have service packs and such for nothing? Their MAJOR VERSIONS of operating systems are that much.
Not to mention the higher cost of hardware with Macs, but I KNOW the answer to that.
Is there actually TTS software in this version, or have they decided to not bother again? </cynic>
(I actually doubt they wouldn't bother. I DO believe the only reason they bothered in the first place was because they were missing sweet 508 contracts because they refused to allow Outspoken access to their APIs after OS9. (I have this on authority from someone AT Outspoken.))
Once upon a time, I thought about getting a Mac. I wouldn't buy one now for love or money. I don't like Apple's business practices, especially the pig's breakfast they've made of iTunes.

Brief notes:

  • We are learning SIGHT READING. It baffles me that everyone doesn't KNOW THIS. I don't think there was ever a time in my memory where I did NOT know basic-treble-clef sight reading. My music prof looks like Aragorn from the movies kinda and sounds like Seinfeld. It's a weird combination. I have to buy my recorder tomorrow. I also know basic recorder fingerings already. Conclusion: this should not be hard.
  • My financial aid came in this morning. I'm celebrating by ordering a crock pot.
  • Given babysitting problems, I dropped my photography class (partly because I'm not sure I could effectively survive five hours of class back to back two days a week anyway, and this seemed like a sign, if you believe in such things) for a writing class entitled "Topic: Online Magazines." It sounds AWESOME. This still falls into 'most awesome semester ever'. Emerson will be much happier with the 400-level writing class, and I don't have to worry about getting to the art building, which is like, far. That's from 4:40-6:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which is not too bad. Less money paid to babysitters is always good unless you're a babysitter. From the looks of things now we'll only need someone Mondays and for nights out.
  • Note: before you order your books, always make sure that you actually DO have the copies of the plays you THOUGHT you had but it turns out you don't. This will avoid having to go to the bookstore, which you were trying to avoid, and waiting in lines. (Fortunately, the lines were not too bad. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to go back yet again to pick up the book for the the aforementioned Online Magazines class. I can't win.)
  • Still nothing back from Mr. Intermediate Fiction Writing Dude.
  • Hills are always steeper if you're running UP them because you don't want to miss the bus.
  • Seaners' swimming class starts Saturday. He has an eye appointment Friday - April Fool's Day. It would amuse me if we got a doctor with a sense of humor and he said "Your kid's not blind any more! April Fool!" But I somehow doubt we'll be so lucky. :-D
  • The swim class is half an hour on Saturday mornings. I'm admittedly nervous, because naturally they're going to fall apart (OMGWTFPB BLIND BABY OH NOES!) like every other time. What do they expect, blind kids not to swim? *eyeroll* As if.
  • The biggest problem I personally have with raising a disabled child is that it tends to do a real number on my already shaky faith in human nature. Oh well.

[livejournal.com profile] m_cat's thoughts on Katamari Damacy. (I love her. The post before that one regarding the easter bunny is also amusing. She's such an awesome visionary and investigative blogger.)

NetDisaster is making me happy through my growly-wanna-kill-things PMS.
