phinnia: green dry goods canisters (canisters)
a good, if domestic day. Emiliy was here yesterday while I went to my consultation with the oral surgeon: while i was gone she cleaned the apartment. and today she came back to help organize things, so she organized some of my yarn and now my spices are alphabetized in an organized fashion and the built in cabinet is organized and clean and i labelled and organized all of my staples (rice and dried beans and different kinds of flour and stuff) in dymo-labelled plastic seventies tupperware canisters i got on ebay and big yogurt containers (until i can get more tupperware canisters) It's beautiful and I can find everything and i'm so grateful i could cry. the apartment is almost where i want it now (i need wall art and small shelves for things and maybe a bigger dining room table) but i will take pictures when i get more camera batteries.

seaners went to the park with emily for an hour or so and they met one of his school friends there. he pushed himself on the swings for ages (and then he'd stop for a little bit and sign 'more' to himself and start up again. dork)

and then he came home and used the potty, and now we're watching planet earth. the end.

i'm exhausted - i think i'm getting sick; but i'm very, very happy. and i have wonderful friends. and a pretty damn good kid.

phinnia: map of japan on a purple background (japan-map)
brought to you today by [livejournal.com profile] bernie_laraemie (a snappy dresser as well as a perfectly victorian gentleman) and [livejournal.com profile] wintersweet (who is one of my guides into the strange and fascinating randomness that is japanese culture, as well as being a great person).

a japanese life in bento SO FREAKING CUTE!

unhappy children "end up unwell"

trek to examine melting of sea ice (i love antarctica best but the northern pole is pretty awesome too.)

researchers find way to make stem cells from skin

archaeologists find lost egyptian tomb

parrots teach man to speak again. SO FREAKING COOL.

woman had cesarian section and open heart surgery at the same time.

saw [livejournal.com profile] doubletake today which made me very, very happy. she hung curtains and my little strings of butterfly/dragonfly lights and moved sean's room around. emmi is kind of like an anti-tornado. she comes in and leaves calmness and neatness behind. <3 <3 it made my otherwise miserable (high-pain is all, nothing else wrong) day a lot better.

Tonight i'm having a grilled cheese and canadian bacon sandwich, placing an amazonfresh order and writing for [livejournal.com profile] purimgifts (hopefully). i've finally figured out what at least two of the things are going to be at least, so i'm good, i think. i just need to write them.

Things I have done;

Applied for a whole lot of (like, I don't know, a lot) jobs. Hate applying for jobs as my resume is pathetic and looks like I haven't worked in seven years (which I haven't). Discouraging. Attempting to be slightly hopeful that at least one of them might at least give me an interview.

Cruised the SIFF lineup for this year. Found at least seven kickass films I want to see; made reservations for six of them using freebies in six pack, am waiting until at least tomorrow to get the rest (am likely just going to buy another six-pack of tickets on payday). Oh god, I love movies so much. so freaking hyped about this, OMG OMG OMG OMG. (Will post SIFF schedule once it's been finalized what all I'm seeing in case anyone else wants to tag along to a showing. <3)

And [livejournal.com profile] newtypeshadow is coming to town for three weeks ... OMG this is just going to be AWESOME AND WIN for the next little while.

(Will ignore the little voice that says I fail at adulthood because of the whole lack of job thing, that I've wasted a whole bunch of time with pain and dealing with boy issues and now I'll never find a job because everyone in the whole world has more qualifications than I do.) (Or try to.)

It's mother's day! Seaners made me a pot and planted a mystery seed in it! [livejournal.com profile] tallin informs me there will be other gifts later.

[livejournal.com profile] doubletake came by yesterday; I was expecting her to watch Sean for about half an hour while Chris ran errands, but instead she did that, made dinner and cleaned the whole house. She too is far too good to me.

How about you?

Home. Tired. Have defeated my fear of the damn bridge over the freeway. Walked about a mile from the freeway stop to home.

Emmi gifted me with Elizabeth Zimmerman's 'Knitting Without Tears' (which looks awesome as I glanced through it) and some pumpkin bread mix.

She made [livejournal.com profile] tallin a t-shirt that says 'if you can read this you're too damn close' in braille, (seriously, it's totally awesome) and Seaners got a lovely letter (also brailled) with a promise of three trips to Jump Palace (one of those local bounce-castle places which he has been to before and loves) with treats on the way home, and some nifty trays for food wherein he can separate all of his dinner into sections. (They are seriously cool. He likes being able to Find Stuff Himself.) And [livejournal.com profile] tallin played Space Channel 5 Part 2 on PS2 and is way better than I would be at it, so we have to buy it now, or well, eventually. <3

She made us brunch and sent us home with dinner and cookies (OMG beet risotto SO GOOD) and I love her to itty bitty bits. And now I'm going to collapse because my body hates the fact that I've walked a mile, especially the ankle (and did I mention I strained the tendons on the other one by falling? No? I did. So I have two screwed up ankles now.) But it was super nice because the little boy stayed home and I got to feel like an actual sociable grownup for a while instead of a kid-chaser.

OMG I r ded. The End.
