phinnia: map of japan on a purple background (japan-map)
brought to you today by [livejournal.com profile] bernie_laraemie (a snappy dresser as well as a perfectly victorian gentleman) and [livejournal.com profile] wintersweet (who is one of my guides into the strange and fascinating randomness that is japanese culture, as well as being a great person).

a japanese life in bento SO FREAKING CUTE!

unhappy children "end up unwell"

trek to examine melting of sea ice (i love antarctica best but the northern pole is pretty awesome too.)

researchers find way to make stem cells from skin

archaeologists find lost egyptian tomb

parrots teach man to speak again. SO FREAKING COOL.

woman had cesarian section and open heart surgery at the same time.

saw [livejournal.com profile] doubletake today which made me very, very happy. she hung curtains and my little strings of butterfly/dragonfly lights and moved sean's room around. emmi is kind of like an anti-tornado. she comes in and leaves calmness and neatness behind. <3 <3 it made my otherwise miserable (high-pain is all, nothing else wrong) day a lot better.

Tonight i'm having a grilled cheese and canadian bacon sandwich, placing an amazonfresh order and writing for [livejournal.com profile] purimgifts (hopefully). i've finally figured out what at least two of the things are going to be at least, so i'm good, i think. i just need to write them.

first: my girlfriend is awesome.

second: so is this link: beijing fireworks party that went horribly wrong.

Best part of article here: The main CCTV building is know as the "giant underpants". Soon insults began appearing on websites: "Liar, liar, pants on fire."

third: and so is [livejournal.com profile] adularia, who I shall be seeing on Friday when we go to the hothouse (I wonder if I could write off the trips to the hothouse as medical expenses? sauna + hottub w/ optional massage = happier body parts). She told me about cosplay restaurants where you can go and have nice boys and/or pretty girls wait on you. I have not heard of these before that I know of and am very charmed by them. (I wonder if I could write that off as a medical expense?)

fourth: how come when the child takes a handful of papers he shouldn't have and moves them somewhere he only hands them back one at a time? probably 'to drive mother stark raving bugnuts.' His plan is working flawlessly.

today there's a lot. <3

how to get things done with twitter (no, really. there's some interesting stuff in it.)

From my amazing internet daughter [livejournal.com profile] sunsetsinthewes: the online etch-a-sketch

And also: mirror, mirror: a look at bush's presidency in photographs. This is surprisingly powerful, no matter what you thought of the man when he was in office. This was the guy that we started to see after Obama was elected president; someone overwhelmed by the office and almost relieved to be rid of it, someone who knew that he'd made a lot of mistakes and used bad judgement and was hoping that history would maybe look on him a little kinder than people do right now. This is really good stuff.

[livejournal.com profile] foxestacado sends me a lot of wonderful links, and since I'm just now cleaning out my email for the past week, there's a lot of them today:

study finds named cows make more milk

<orgy for Obama in LA (i almost typed "LJ'. That would have been more interesting.)

Two from the elephant case at the LA zoo: Bob Barker pledges 1.5 million to move elephant. and musicians (including Slash from Guns n' Roses) support elephant project.

(ways fandom has forever altered my brain: I read 'slash among pachyderm forest supporters' and wondered what the pairing was.)

and japan to tourists: don't lick the tuna. oh, JAPAN. don't ever change.

And now I've got my email down from over 150 to about ten items. Thank GOD. I actually feel a lot more centered now. <3

From [livejournal.com profile] wintersweet, who is the bringer of marvelous crack from Japan: Japanese Obama action figure. This is still making me giggle uncontrollably. (apparently the guns are just a japan thing. even the schoolgirl action figures have guns.)

From [livejournal.com profile] silenceleigh, who is fantastic (she did the photos of me, so if anyone local is interested in doing photos and liked these ones should contact her directly) 88 lines about 44 presidents. Funny AND educational!

From [livejournal.com profile] foxestacado, who emails me awesome links on a regular basis: demand for 'best job in the world' crashes website. Dude, it is a supremely amazing job. I'd do it.

And from [livejournal.com profile] sunsetsinthewes (who is one of my beloved internet children) the art of invisibility Really amazing 'urban camouflage art.' (camouflage is one of those words that looks wrong even when it's spelled correctly.)

I have to make one more telephone call to deal with this ridiculousness with the mail order pharmacy. I am also searching for the pin out of one of my shawl pins (I think it's under the couch but I can't reach it) and one of the lids to one of my pens. Other than that it is rest tiems here at my house. What are you doing today? I finished 'four and twenty blackbirds (cherie priest) and am working on Musicophinia (oliver sacks, all about the way music affects the brain.) And I'm practicing nap meditation periodically.

time for english muffins and jam i think.

(oh god i am so sorry about the previous asploted one. I am so tired, i fell asleep and it went strange because I hit a lot of buttons and I was trying to erase all the buttons and then it occurred to me that I could just copy and paste the text and then the thing would not be borken and oh god i'm so tired.)

and happy anniversary to my awesome girlfriend!

edit: omfg this post had a lot of typoes in it. i think they're all gone now. jeez. (i just wrote 'jess' for that. i think i should not be trusted with anything created for those over age 3.

i'm so freakin cold right now that i have a blanket up over my shoulders and a blanket on my lap and all that's sticking out are my hands to tyupe with and my head. i feel like one of those things, you know, snowmen or something whatever. Neko just lay down beside me.

i am also eating cheesies. and failing to pack. and i smell like 'the lion' from bpal, which is straight amber; to me it evokes a honeyish color and thoughts of bees.

from the most excellent [livejournal.com profile] brightflashes, this is really cool: the museum of foreign groceries. I remember Kraft Dinner and regular Smarties (not giant or alphabet) and habitant soup from my childhood; the hello kitty douche is just ... oh, JAPAN. Augh, i am so tired... how are you all doing? <3

33 Ukiyo-e, 13 Islamic, 10 Impressionist, -22 Cubist, -26 Abstract and 12 Renaissance!

Ukiyo-e (浮世絵, Ukiyo-e), "pictures of the floating world", is a genre of Japaneseand paintings produced between the 17th and the 20th centuries. it mostly featured landscapes, historic tales, theatre, and pleasure. Ukiyo is a rather impetuous urban culture that has bloomed in popularity. Although the Japanese were more strict and had many prohibitions it did not affect the rising merchant class and therefore became a floating art form that did not bind itself to the normal ideals of society.

People that chose Ukiyo-e art tend to be more simplistic yet elegant. They don't care much about new style but are comfortable in creating their own. They like the idea of living for the moment and enjoy giving and receiving pleasure. They may be more agreeable than other people and do not like to argue. They do not mind following traditions but are not afraid to move forward to experience other ideas in life. They tend to enjoy nature and the outdoors. They do not mind being more adventurous in their sexual experiences. They enjoy being popular and like being noticed. They have their own unique style of dress and of presenting themselves. They may also tend to be more business oriented or at the very least interested in money making adventures. They might make good entrepreneurs. They are progressive and adaptable.

I have had a snickerdoodle, and I'm quite impressed with them. They're like those cinnamon twist things in cookie format. I'd never had one before.
Everyone else in the house is sleeping except me.

oh, JAPAN.

Solar powered bra displays text, holds drinks.

Today: two psychiatrist appointments. One for me and one for the boychild. It'll be FUN!

Well, it actually won't. You know. But we'll get by.

Cool, grey, rainy. I am sore and ridiculously tired. You know, the usual. My coffee is half-strength and I'm actually pretty disgruntled about that. But I'm hopng the day will pick up from here.
